SNITCH ALERT!
One of the little known stories about the SHAC 7 trial involves this woman, Lisa Distefano. I first met Lisa in 1999 when I was a member of Sea Defense Alliance. At that time she was married to Paul Watson, but they separated soon after and I heard that she had moved to Hawaii. I was surprised one day in 2001 when I walked into a Northwest Animal Rights Network meeting in Seattle and saw her hanging out. To be honest, she had always rubbed me the wrong way previously, and wasn’t even vegetarian during her time with SSCS. Suddenly she was claiming she was a vegan and wanted to work on the campaign against HLS. My feeling was “The more, the merrier,” so we welcomed her into our group. Little did we know that she was working for the FBI, and during her time working on the campaign she planted evidence in our homes (including two items that were used against us at trial,) attempted to entrap me for several crimes including arson and purchasing a machine gun, and provided the feds with details about dozens of campaigners. The problem for the feds was that Lisa was well aware that we were not committing crimes, in fact, Lisa and I spent so much time together that she was my alibi for many of the illegal actions that occurred in Washington! Knowing that she would be more beneficial to our defense than our prosecution, I asked that she be subpoenaed to testify. She had long since disappeared though, and is now rumored to be living in Sequim, Washington. Please pass this post around so that people can protect themselves from her should she ever attempt to re-infiltrate activist groups.
