There was a time when major skateboard companies put out a lot of pro-animal graphics for their vegan and vegetarian pros, often a little grudgingly. This 1989 Mike Vallely model was originally supposed to be of animals serenely walking through a field, but World Industries redesigned it to be sort of a cartoon animal dystopia. When Vallely saw it he was angered, and compromised to have a top graphic that said “Please don’t eat my friends,” along with an image of the farmer from the bottom graphic being crushed by an anvil. Interestingly enough, the shape of this model was so ground breaking that it is now one of only two skateboards in the Smithsonian Museum’s collection.
