Cop Shoots, Kills College Student for Speaking Disrespectfully -
The San Antonio campus cop was placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting of a clearly unarmed and non-combative student. What was the 23-year-old student’s crime? Robert Cameron Redus was shot dead by officer Carter at 2 a.m. for nothing more than making a sarcastic remark toward the officer who pulled him over for speeding..
According to the police report, local KSAT News explains that witnesses affirmed that the cop literally “emptied his gun” into the student without warning.
Durham Police Chief claims teen died from self-inflicted gun wound while handcuffed
December 12, 2013
A Durham teen died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said Wednesday afternoon at a news conference.
Lopez held a 3 p.m. news conference and started by extending condolences to the family of Jesus Huerta, who died in a police cruiser in November. Huerta was 17.
He said the noise heard by the officer was a gunshot, and said it was a gunshot wound to the head.
Lopez said a handgun was found in the car and that Huerta was still handcuffed from behind. He said the wound was self-inflicted.
"The medical examiner’s office has confirmed that Jesus Huerta died from a gunshot wound to his head," Lopez said. "Whether that wound was accidental or intentional is unknown at this time."
Lopez said Huerta was searched, and police are not sure where how he had the weapon.
"I know that it is hard for people not in law enforcement to understand how someone could be capable of shooting themselves while handcuffed behind the back," Lopez said. "While incidents like this are not common, they unfortunately have happened in other jurisdictions in the past."
Huerta’s family released a statement following the press conference held by Lopez. The family of Huerta said the press conference did not release any new information to the public.
"How did Jesús end up dead in the parking lot at police headquarters in these circumstances? Searched. Handcuffed behind the back. How is it even possible to shoot oneself?" the statement reads.
The family of Huerta also requested all forms of communication “received, sent, possessed or created by any City of Durham employee and/or city official (including but not limited to the police chief, command staff, city manager, police public relations/press staff) that touch upon or concern the detention, arrest, death and all investigations concerning Jesús Huerta.”
Lopez said the SBI is continuing their investigation into the incident for any possible criminal violations, which is standard procedure
Abolitionist-Online - A Voice for Animal Rights - Interview with Gary Yourofsky -
This is the archive page where the old AO interview with Gary Yourofsky currently sits. A few people have asked me for evidence that Gary has advocated that fur wearers be raped- the quote is contained in this interview and reads as follows: “Every women ensconced in fur should endure a rape so vicious that it scars them forever. While every man entrenched in fur should suffer an anal raping so horrific that they become disembowelled." This is a despicable philosophy coming from a despicable person.
Nobody scares me more than drunk white men in numbers.
Sober white men with badges
Shit, anyone with a badge. Don’t forget that it was a black cop who dropped the bomb on the MOVE house, that female cops helped torture and interrogate female panthers in New York jail cells, and that cops of all nationalities, religions, and cultural backgrounds carry out the same order: keep the poor in line and the money in the hands of the rich.
On April 24th, 1983, Mobilization for Animals rallied more than 40,000 people in cities around the world to protest against vivisection. More than half of those protesters were here in the United States.
Mobilization for Animals saw animal liberation as a social movement that would succeed by incorporating mass protest, direct action, and pressure on legislators. Their founders were not single issue, and came from union organizing, anti-war, and feminist backgrounds. While some of their ideas were not in line with my anarchist ethics, their focus on decentralization, local empowerment of the grassroots, and support for pushing the envelope make them one of my favorite historical AR organizations.

Don’t Trust The Media.
Well, if you noticed when I was speaking I said the whites can help, if the’re progressive-minded. But my observation and analysis of the kind of help they’ve been giving makes me very cautious about the help that they offer. And I say that because of this: as I said, I grew up with whites. Most of them are intelligent. At least they used to be. No white person would go about fighting for freedom in the same manner that he has helped me and you to fight for our freedom. No, none of them would. When it comes to Black freedom, then the white man freedom-rides and sits in, he’s nonviolent, he sings “We Shall Overcome” and all that stuff. But when the property of the white man himself is threatened, or the freedom of the white man is threatened, he’s not nonviolent. He’s only nonviolent when he’s on your side. But when he’s on his side he loses all that patience and nonviolence. —
Answer to a question concerning the role of white people. (April 8, 1964)
It is important to note that while Malcolm X was mostly on target here, this hasn’t always been the case. From John Brown to David Gilbert, some white folks have taken up arms to fight for the freedom of others in the same manner they would expect for themselves. Mandela’s recent passing reminded me of the Jewish and European / white members of the ANC who fought against apartheid in South Africa and the white members of the United Freedom Front who carried out bombings and sabotage against companies allied with the apartheid regime in the U.S.

Police: No intention to arrest animal rights activist Gary Youstrofsky -
Bar-Ilan University cancels lecture by outspoken American vegan after a series of altercations mar his visit to Israel.
So, Gary Yourofsky not only has suggested that rape be used as a tactic to stop people from wearing fur, he has now told a journalist in Israel that he hopes someone rapes his children. This came only one week after he said that he doesn’t concern himself with what happens to Palestinians in an embarrassing interview that made animal liberationists seem akin to the far right.
So, here is the thing, Gary has been a humiliation to this movement for a very long time. Much of what he says about himself is not true. For example: He never opened any cages on a mink farm, he was the lookout and not only did everyone get caught on his watch, but Gary brought along the two snitches that night. One was his meat eating uncle who wanted the adventure, the other was an 18 year old girl that Gary was trying to impress. When he started his brief, Canadian prison time he claimed that he would hunger strike for it’s entirety and caused a minor media spectacle by organizing a rotating, international solidarity strike. A few dozen people signed up and when Gary entered prison they all stopped eating. Problem was, Gary only made it two days without food, meaning that the whole thing was yet another humiliation for the movement. And I’m not even touching on his pro-rape-lyric heavy “rap career.”
Point is, I don’t want someone who has advocated sexual violence as a form of activism in any movement I am a part of. I don’t want to be associated with someone who can look the other way when genocide and apartheid is being committed in Israel. I don’t want to be associated with someone who repeatedly and unapologetically makes decisions that reflect poorly on our philosophy and organizations. I don’t want anything to do with Gary Yourofsky, and I think from here on out we ought to do what we can to get him cancelled wherever he goes.
In the last couple of days I have seen the biggest spike in “followers” on here since I started this thing. I just thought I’d tell you a bit about me and what you can expect on here.
I am a former prisoner, I was incarcerated for three years for two speeches I gave as part of a campaign to close a laboratory known as Huntingdon Life Sciences. Prison was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, and I think about the prison-industrial-complex an awful lot. If you stick around for a while you will seeing me calling for the abolition of prisons. If you have any questions about that please let me know.
I am a big fan of human freedom, mutual aid, and that beautiful place where both the individual and the collective can thrive. I have identified as an anarchist since I first heard the term explained, and use the word still even if most modern strains of anarchism aren’t all that appealing to me. You can expect plenty of posts about the evils of the state, and people fighting back.
Having grown up in the United States, I was indoctrinated into the same racist, sexist, hetero-normative, mindset that most other white kids grew up with. Unlearning those ways of thinking has been a long struggle, one that is ongoing, and one that I talk about on here. If you are struggling to let go of your own bias/phobia/prejudice please drop me a line, I’d love to chat with you about it.
Other than that, I am an animal liberationist and wilderness defender who archives publications relevant to those movements over at thetalonconspiracy.com. I talk a lot about direct action for non-humans and the eco-systems that keep us all alive and would love to read your thoughts. I occasionally also post something about punk music or pop culture or comic books. Anyhow, thank you for following me.

TERF Battles : OutSmart Magazine -
Transsexual surgery “could be likened to political psychiatry in the Soviet Union. Cristan Williams writes about the hate group hiding in our own community.
While I am not a fan of framing anyone as a “hate group,” it is imperative that Trans Exclusive Radical Feminism be challenged. This prejudice-masquerading-as-anti-oppression-politics nonsense is increasing the harm done to an already vulnerable and marginalized population. This article provides a short history of TERF actions against transgender women, shows how they created and popularized the anti-trans memes now used by the religious right in the United States, and names the worst offenders.
I’ve been researching the origins of a tactic known in the animal rights world as “micro-targeting.” Instead of going after an institution or corporation, micro-targeting involves picking a single person responsible for an abuse and applying pressure on them until they quit. The tactic has limitations, but has also been incredibly successful in shutting down individual experiments. In the 80’s it led to massive media coverage from outlets such as Newsweek, 20/20, 60 Minutes, and so on, which helped to spread the reach of the anti-vivisection movement.
Above is an image of a Trans-Species Unlimited protest at Cornell Medical College from 1987 or 1988. TSU went after a researcher named Michiko Okamoto who force fed barbiturates to cats. For four months they protested her offices, and even held rallies at her parking space so she would have to face protesters on her way to, and home from, work. More than ten thousand letters were sent to her, and she was constantly barraged with phone calls. Unable to handle the unrelenting siege of the anti-vivisection movement, she rejected a $530,000 grant and stopped her project, saving hundreds of cats from needless, painful experimentation.
